I've been very busy the past week or two. My daughter had ACL surgery. You don't realize how much you do for yourself that you take for granted. I love helping her and it's hard on her to ask for help.
This reminds me that having a home decorated in a fashion that makes me feel good to be home is so important to your state of mind. It's easy to get caught up in today's hustle and bustle. And having a place to go that gives you a feeling of peace and calm is worth so much.

Primitive Country Decorating and the many collections you can put together to make a huge impact in your décor.
Do you have a collection of things that belonged to your family or you bought at a flea market, auction or garage sale? Would you like to know if this collection would fit with your primitive country décor? This article will give you a better idea of the types of collections country decorators display and a few ways they choose to showcase them.
Pictures – You may have tin pictures or some cardboard backed pictures sitting around your house or in your attic. Whether these pictures are of family members or if you purchased them, they will make a great display and conversation area for your home.
Skeleton Keys – Skeleton keys can be individually hung on the wall with ribbons and arranged in a small grouping or placed in a shadow box. They come in many different shapes and sizes.
Quilts – Whether your quilts are family heirlooms made by your great grandmother or purchased at a flea market or holiday craft show, there are many ways to display them. You may choose to put them on a quilt rack that stands on the floor or maybe one that hangs on the wall. Or you may even wish to preserve them and keep them from the elements by storing them in a cedar chest.
Bottles – Many things that are purchased in plastic containers today were once delivered in glass bottles. Since these bottles are no longer available to you they make a unique display. These can be found in antique shops and sometimes at garage sales and flea markets. A great way to display old bottles is in a window sill where the sun light shines through them or in an old wire milk bottle basket.
Game Boards – Game boards were at one time made from wood. You can take a small or a large collection and hang them on an accent wall. You can use all checkerboards or mix and match your game boards.
Kitchen Utensils – Whether you have antique spatula’s, whisks, cheese slicers, silverware or an item you’re not really sure what its purpose was, you can hang these things on a wall or along the underside of your upper cabinets. Many of these items will become a conversation piece as people try to figure out how they were used.
Rug Beaters – Yes, women actually did use these at one time. Homes were not carpeted years ago, but they did have large rugs in their home. They would take them outdoors and use these to beat the dirt and dust out of the rugs. A wonderful place to display your rug beaters is up and down the walls in a stairway.
Strainers – Many strainers you purchase today are made of plastic. The older strainers were made of metal and some were very elaborately designed with the holes making different designs. These make a great display when hung on the wall either in one central area or perhaps in the area above cabinets.
Earthenware Crocks – Crocks can be very versatile items. You can use them as decorative accents, but you can also use them to store items, as well. You could put your knitting in one of them or you could store decorative yarn balls.
Cookie Jars – Cookie jars have been around for centuries and come in innumerable shapes, designs and themes. Cookie jars can take up a bit more space than some of the previously mentioned collections. Therefore they work well on top of cabinets or on shelving that is placed near the ceiling.
A few other collections that come to mind for primitive country design are postcards, clocks, garden tools, rolling pins, books, bird houses and cow bells.
And now that you’re thinking about collections you could place in different areas of your home, go ahead and get started. If you have a collection, get it out and play around a little and see what you can come up with. If you don’t currently have a collection you should now have a better idea of what you need to go shopping for!

The Easter holiday will soon be upon us. Why not get a head start on your decorating at JKL Country Primitives
What comes to your mind when you think about Easter? Are you excited to see the flowers bloom and the grass begin to spring back up through the ground? This article will give you a better idea of how you can bring the primitive country design into your Easter decorating fun!
A few of the items most people think about when they think about Easter are bunnies, eggs, chicks, flowers and items associated with spring. The primitive country decorating style has all these things and more available to you.
Color – You might think that Easter colors are off limits to someone who decorates in this style, because they don’t typically match a primitive country décor. Then I have some great news for you. You will be pleasantly surprised to find that country Easter colors blend very smoothly with your other primitive country items and still give you that bright fresh feeling you look forward to every spring.
Bunnies – Bunnies come in a variety of different shapes and sizes. You can choose from wooden bunnies to stuffed ‘grubby’ bunnies for your decorating needs. If you’re lucky enough you might be able to find an old cake mold tin in the shape of a bunny and your decorating takes on a whole new look. Or maybe you’d like to have the carrots that bunnies love to eat. You can find fabric carrots that look like they were made for your decorating style.
You can even find milk chocolate bunnies that aren’t edible, but sure smell like they are. They’re made out of fabric and prepared to look and smell just like an Easter morning favorite for kids around the world.
Eggs – Eggs are a versatile item that can be placed in any number of arrangements and areas in your home. You could make or purchase a wreath in a spring theme with eggs attached to it. You might grab a wooden bowl and place some grass or maybe raffia in it and place a few eggs in it. This would make a beautiful centerpiece for your Easter meal. Eggs can also be placed on the end of a stick and can be arranged to become a unique bouquet for Easter.
Flowers – Flower arrangements take on a whole new meaning when you use them to decorate your primitive country home. They can be placed in traditional vases or can be arranged in a multitude of different items not typically associated with flower arrangements!
For instance, why not take an old dry sink pitcher or watering can and make a bouquet to place in it? Crocks, canning jars and tea pots also make a delightful display for your flower arrangements.
Miscellaneous Items – Pictures of bunnies and eggs and all things Easter can be found in a multitude of places. Pillows with pictures of Easter on them are a great addition to your holiday decorating.
Stitcheries of eggs and bunnies would add a special touch. Stacking boxes might have an Easter saying stenciled on the side of them. Toaster covers and pot holders are also available decorated in just the Easter pattern you’re looking for. Candles are a great choice for any decorating season. They are available in such delicious scents as lilac or fresh cut grass.
So, now that you’ve got a better idea of how easily and boldly you can decorate your home for Easter, go ahead and get started. It’s never too early to plan out your decorating needs.
